Visiting the Book of Kells & Trinity College

If Ireland is not yet on your bucketlist- go add it right now! While it has been always been on my bucket list, it wasn’t in my top five until we found roundtrip, direct flights from JFK to Dublin on Delta for under $300 {yes, you read that correctly!}. At that price, how can you say no? So we booked our flights and never looked back. And goodness am I thankful we did! Our trip was only one week long and we knew we wanted to hit a plethora of cities, so we chose to spend each night in a different city. Exhausting? Yes. Worth it? YES!

We took the red eye flight from JFK to Dublin and woke up ready to explore the Dublin city centre. Our taxi took us straight to our Bed & Breakfast, the Kilronan House, where we were greeted with some much needed hot tea and dark chocolate Digestive biscuits. We took a few minutes to freshen up and then headed on our way! When in Dublin, I highly suggest you stay here!

The number one thing on my bucket list in Dublin was to see the Book of Kells, so once we were refreshed we put on our walking shoes and headed over. I had seen photos of Trinity College and the Book of Kells dozens of times, but they really just don’t do it justice. Everything about it felt grand and regal. Maybe it is the history nerd in me, but there is something humbling about standing in a school founded in 1592 and before a book from 800 AD.

How incredible is it that the Book of Kells was created in a time closer to when Jesus was born than to when I was born? We aren’t allowed to photograph the actual books, but the library itself was incredibly impressive and worth visiting. Pictures don’t come close sharing how impressive this place is in real life.  It was stunning and must be on your bucket list!

When you read about this in the guide books it doesn’t quite make my top ten. BUT it is such a cool site. I am glad I popped in to take a look when I was in Dublin!

Ireland is definitely on my must-travel list! Wow, under $300 for Delta is such a steal! Delta flights in general are usually crazy expensive.
