My Favorite Neighborhoods in Paris

Is there any other city in the world more beautiful than Paris? My heart skips a beat simply thinking about the cobblestone streets, limestone buildings and art-lined river. While all of Paris is breathtaking, there are a few neighborhoods I specifically love and could spend hours meandering aimlessly through and still be more than content. Below are a few of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris and what I love most about them.

When in Paris, you must visit the following neighborhoods:

1st Arrondissement – Louvre
The heart of Paris. Here you will find a plethora of landmarks {Louvre, Les Halles, Palais Royal, etc}, luxury hotels and boutique shops. I highly recommend walking the Rue de Rivoli and soaking in your surroundings.

3rd & 4th Arrondissement – Marais
One of the oldest neighborhoods in Paris filled with trendy restaurants and boutiques. Be sure to visit the Ile St Louis, Notre Dame, Picasso Museum & Hôtel de Ville. Enjoy an afternoon getting lost in the winding streets as you explore some of the oldest buildings and charming streets.

5th Arrondissement –  Latin Quarter
This area is home to the Sorbonne and many other educational institutions. Here you will find a plethora of restaurants, bars and cafés. Also, be sure to visit the Pantheon.

6th Arrondissement – St Germaine
One of my favorite neighborhoods in all of Paris. It is undeniably charming and many of my favorite cafés are located here. While in this neighborhood, you must visit the Jardin du Luxembourg. The park is absolutely stunning and is the perfect place for people watching.

7th Arrondissement – Eiffel Tower
Home to the iconic Eiffel Tower. Spend your time exploring the gardens beneath the Eiffel Tower & enjoying a picnic with possibly the most picturesque view in the world. There aren’t too many restaurants in the area {or at least few I would recommend}, but the neighborhood is beautiful. Also note the Invalides and Rue Cler while here. Be sure to visit the Trocadero across the Seine for another great view of the Eiffel Tower.

8th Arrondissement – Champs Elysées
Possibly the fashion capital of the world. This neighborhood holds the Champs Elysées, which is home to many of the most luxurious brands in the world. Here you will also find the Arc de Triomphe, which I highly encourage you to climb. You will find some of the most breathtaking views of the city from the top.

18th Arrondissement – Montemartre
Almost every street in this neighborhood seems to be straight from a postcard. Spend your afternoon getting lost in the streets, browsing street art, shopping in small boutiques or soaking in the views of the city. Be sure to climb the stairs up to the Sacré Cœur, which sits above the city and gives you unobstructed views. I recommend coming just before sunset. Yes, there will be crowds- but it is worth it.

Are there any other neighborhoods you recommend?

I have never been to Paris, so this is such a great post for when I finally make the visit. I love walking around old neighborhoods, so I know I’ll love 3rd & 4th Arrondissement – Marais :)

Oh my goodness, I would love to go to Paris. I have actually applied for graduate school there, so maybe between my studies, I will really have a good chance to explore the other neighborhoods. They all seem charming in their own lovely and unique way.
