Be a Finish Line Tape Breaker

“There are few things more powerful than a life lived with passionate clarity.”
Irwin McManus

My dad always taught me to dream big and to begin with the end in mind. Visualize my goal and work backwards. Similarly, one of my new favorite authors Jim Akers writes, “the view from the finish line changes everything. It begs you to think forward. What will be lost if you don’t run the courageous race? Who will be left behind? Who will miss your intended contribution if you don’t run for impact?”

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this recently. Am I running courageously and zealously towards the things that matter? Or am I leisurely walking towards my goals and what matters? In Jim’s new book “Tape Breakers,” he reminds us that we are each running a race. We may not get to choose when our life/race begins or ends, but we do get to choose how we will run it. We must choose to run with conviction and passion, to give our best and to finish strong. We need to finish the race and break that finish line tape. I want to be a tape breaker.

“You don’t always know the good your races are intended to produce until you run them with conviction” {Jim Akers}. When my life is over, what do I want to be remembered for? Who do I want to be remembered by?  How I run my race will determine the answers to these questions. I don’t know about you, but I want to make sure I intentionally choose to run towards things that matter.

If everyone runs a race, I want my race to tell a story of bravery and boldness. I want my story to change lives, to inspire hearts, and to unlock possibilities. At the end of my life, I yearn to stand before Yahweh and state, “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” {2 Timothy 4:7}.

When your life is over, what do you want to be remembered for?
What are you running for or running towards?
