Reasons to be Thankful & One of our Thanksgiving Traditions

I believe the little blessings in life should be celebrated and therefore, Thanksgiving is hands down one of my favorite holidays. I love any excuse to count my blessings and enjoy a bottle of bubbly with family and friends {even if the bubbly this year is sparkling water}. This year, there are so many reasons to be thankful. From family and health to our growing bébé and our growing community. I love writing down a tangible list of blessings so I can reflect each year and remember each season of life.

Growing up my family created a Thanksgiving Thankful Turkey {looked similar to these}. Each member of the family would get one piece of paper cut into the shape of a turkey feather and a pen. We would then each write down what we were thankful for {some people wrote bullet points, others wrote long sentences}. After we had finished writing what we were thankful for, we would pass our feathers to my father. Once all collected, he would then read each one out loud and we would guess who wrote each feather. After each feather had been read and the author had been determined, we would put the feathers on the turkey, write the year and hang it up. To this day my parents still have every Thankful Turkey we’ve created as a family. It is always fun to reminisce on what we were thankful for in the past and who we have celebrated with. I plan on continuing this tradition with our growing family over the years.

This year we are hosting Thanksgiving with my in-laws in our tiny NYC apartment and I could not be more excited to celebrate this special season with them. This is will be our last Thanksgiving before our little guy makes his grand entrance and I have a feeling holidays will look quite different in the future- but of course in the best way possible.

What are some of your Thanksgiving traditions?

Or what are you thankful for this week?

If your Thanksgiving week tradition includes enjoying Black Friday sales, you need to check out Diff Eyewear. I personally prefer online shopping and staying away from the crowds and Diff Eyewear is offering a sale Thursday-Monday. Not only does this company give back to those in need with each pair of sunglasses purchased, but you can get 30% off your order when you purchase 1 pair of sunglasses, 40% off when you order 2 pairs and 50% when you order 3 pairs {excluding new styles & licensing}! Win-win-win! I have 3 pairs {as seen here & here} and keep them on a constant rotation!

In Dallas we would participate in the Turkey Trot – in NYC we love to go to the Thanksgiving Parade. Love Traditions.

The turkey trot sounds fun. I don’t have any thanksgiving traditions but I should start some.

I like how you write down the things you’re grateful for. I think that’s something I should be doing, too. x

Such a great post! I am so thankful that my dog, Steven is able to walk again. He was recently paralyzed and they weren’t sure if he would ever walk but he is slowly getting better!

Love the Turkey tradition. The feathers are very uplifting. Pardon the pun.
