Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. I am beyond excited about each item that I will be using to fulfill this wedding tradition. For my 21st birthday my mother gave me my great grandmother’s wedding ring. We called her “Bunya” which was short for the Russian name for grandmother- yes, my moms side of the family is 100% Russian. Although I have very few memories of Bunya, I do have pictures and the stories my parents have told me about her love for the Lord, her love for others and her love of baking (especially with “hot stuff,” as she called it). Growing up I have always loved her ring because of its meaning and its beautiful vintage look. And now I get to enjoy it on my special day as my “something old.”

As it is almost my parents 25th wedding anniversary, my mom and I have been reminiscing on some of the things that made her day special. One of these was her “something borrowed.” On my mothers wedding day my grandmother let her borrow the garter that she had worn on her wedding day. Loving this idea, I contacted my grandmother and asked her if she still had it and if I could borrow it. Little did I know that she would present her garter and handkerchief to me the next week when my family came out to celebrate her 80th birthday! It was such a special moment that I will never forget. I was even more excited when I realized that my new “something borrowed” was also my grandmothers “something blue.” I also will be borrowing my mothers garter from her wedding day. So I will be wearing a garter that is 62 years old and one that is 25 years old! Words cannot convey how excited I am about these little details!

As far as the something new, I still have no idea what to do. To be honest, I am not even sure what is typically used for the something new. Any suggestions?

I can’t wait to share this special day with my family and friends!

Two wonderful role models

“Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.  And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
