The White Dress(es)

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that my grandmother came out to visit and help my mother and I with some last minute wedding details and crafts. While she was visiting we went on a few adventures together. My grandmother, mother and I baked, crafted and went to my final fitting. I found my dress over a year ago with my father on a whim when he was helping me move into my apartment in Norman, Oklahoma at BeLoved Bridal. If you are in Oklahoma and looking for a wedding dress these women are just wonderful! They welcomed my father and I in with sweet smiles and open arms, despite the fact that we were no where near presentable- 117° weather and carrying a queen size mattress up three flights of stairs don’t mix very well.  My father is actually the one who picked out the dress and had me try it on. And I am so glad he did. It is beautiful! And every girl deserves to wear something very different from her normal on her wedding day- right?

Well after my last fitting it became very apparent that there was little room to dance comfortably and sitting was a bit of a task. And after having just come home from my cousins wedding where we danced most of the night, I realized this may be a bit uncomfortable. So after speaking with my parents my mother, grandmother and I went on another adventure. We went dress shopping. Yes, less than one month away from our wedding we went dress shopping. Since most sample dresses come in size 8-10 this was a bit of a task. We quickly learned that very few salons carry anything smaller than that in stock. However after just a couple of stores and a few phone calls we found a bridal boutique that had a plethora of dresses that had just come in from the designers warehouse that were to be sold at an event the next day for charity. It was so special to share this memory with my grandmother. I honestly think that she was just as excited as I was the moment the last button was hooked! It was perfect! So on my wedding day I got to wear a dress picked out by my father and a dress picked out by my mother and grandmother. The second dress actually closely resembled another dress that I had tried on with my father but was out of my budget. So I ended up with the best of both worlds!  With the help of my parents and grandmother I got to wear both a stunning dress with a gorgeous long train and a fun fluffy dress to dance the night away in. Thank you mom and dad for making Caleb and my wedding day even more wonderful than I could have ever dreamed! Words cannot convey how blessed I feel. My heart still flutters when I think about our perfect day!

The exact same thing happened to me! I bought the perfect dress and a month before the wedding realized it was not ideal for dancing and sitting, so luckily we found the exact same dress 2 weeks before the Wedding and had it overnighted, and altered just in time for wedding day.

You are the fourth person I have heard that from! Praise the Lord for second dresses!! That is awesome that you were able to find and alter your dress in time!

[…] My bridesmaids and I stayed in and got ready in one of the cabins in our little cabin ‘wedding village.’ The hair dressers came to us and we enjoyed a morning of champagne, mimosas, music, and fellowship. And my maid of honor even snuck in a little study session for her upcoming law school test. It was perfect. (And yes, I had two dresses. You can read more about why here) […]
