I fell in love with Galway almost instantly. It is so charming, completely walkable and full of character. If Galway isn’t on your bucket list yet- add it now. The city is vibrant and young, but not in an overwhelming kind of way. It is full of history and has something for everyone. I promise, you will love it! We were there during the Christmas season and it was absolutely magical! They had a huge festival/market and the whole town was completely decorated.
Here are a few tips on what to do in Galway! Stay tuned for more recommendations for other Irish cities!
Itinerary
- We only spent one night here, but I would love to go back and spend more time in this delightful city!
Airport/Train Stations
- Dublin Airport DUB & drive about 2 hours {it’s a stunning, terrifying drive!}
Hotel
- HomeAway
- Airbnb
- Corrib House B&B {we stayed at B&B’s all over Ireland & LOVED getting to meet locals. we loved the location of this B&B and would stay here again in a heart beat. It was perfect}
Restaurants
- We ate breakfast at our B&B and it was SO SO SO good! If you don’t stay here, at LEAST go for the breakfast. Best eggs, scones & salmon ever.
- Lunch/Dinner
- McDonagh’s {get their fish & chips- the fish is caught locally}
- The Pie Maker
- Quay Street Kitchen
Transportation
- Rent a car
- Walk {my favorite way to see the city}
- Uber
Recommendations
- Shop – Buy a wool sweater at O’Maille. We bought so many fun local treats in this city.
- Eat at local pubs {and try a local beer and an Irish Coffee}
- Visit the St Nicholas’s Collegiate Church {built in 1320} & the Galway Cathedral
- Visit the weekend Galway Market
- Listen to music on Quay Street
- Explore Galway’s Latin Quarter
- Visit the Spanish Arch {built in 1584} overlooking the River Corrib
