Siem Reap was an absolute delight to the senses! I highly recommend everyone add it to their bucket list. We spent four days in this lovely little city and would love to return one day. Below is our itinerary and an overview of our suggestions. What would you add or change from our trip?

Itinerary
we arrived late at night & just had dinner. We count day 1 as our first full day, not the day we actually arrived

Day 0– flew in late & ate dinner at the hotel
Day 1Angkor Wat and the Best Wats in Siem Reap
Day 2– explore Siem Reap City and the Floating Village
Day 3–  visit the Cambodian Countryside, the City on Stilts, and more of Siem Reap city
Day 4– relax by the Lotus Flowers, Lilly Pads and Hammocks, a little more Siem Reap city, & flew out late

Airport:

  • Siem Reap International Airport

Hotel :

  • Golden Temple Villa
    {seriously the BEST location, $22/night + breakfast and a free massage. you would be crazy not to stay here!!}

Restaurants:

  • Street vendors {$1 banana/nutella crepes, fresh fruit, & so much more}
  • Our hotel {seriously- it was incredible, local and so cheap!!}
  • Viva {mexican food, $1 beers, refillable chips & salsa, and fajitas with Cambodian spices}
  • Olive Cuisine de Saison {fusion}
  • There are dozens of great restaurants within walking distance from the hotel

Transportation:

  • Tuk tuks {they are everywhere & they are so cheap!}
  • Bicycles {our hotel lent us a couple but you can rent them around town too}
  • Walk

Recommendations:

  • Bring a sarong or something to cover your shoulders inside any temples {men & women}
  • Women must cover their knees in the Angkor Wat temples
  • Hire a private tuk-tuk for the day and ask him to bring you to his favorite places {should be about $10}
  • Do NOT give money to the begging kids. These kids are taken out of school to beg and are only put back into school if they don’t make enough money.
  • Visit the night markets- they are incredible and great for buying gifts!

    Thanks for the information on your Siem Reap post. We will be heading that way in a few months time and we always enjoy recommendations on places to stay. The prices seem reasonable in Cambodia as well. Great tip on hiring a tuk tuk driver for the day – the price is very good. Does that mean that you can hire him just before sunrise to see the temples? How long did you book him for when you say all day?

    We spent three months in Cambodia a couple of years ago, and loved our time in Siem Reap. We went to the war museums and the landmine museum, which are a little way out of town, but well worth a visit. Easy to get a tuktuk out there, and a good chance to see the countryside. Near one of them is a butterfly park, but it had been raining the day we went, and all the butterflies were sleeping… I hadn’t realized they didn’t like the rain.
