Eze is one of the most magical spots on the French Riviera and the views from the peak are some of the prettiest views I’ve ever seen. This tiny medieval village is perched high above the sea, with winding cobblestone streets, breathtaking views, and a charm that feels straight out of a storybook. Surprisingly, Eze didn’t make my original itinerary, but we heard so many people raving about it once we arrived that we decided to add it back into our plans. And I’m SO glad we did. It was gorgeous! Every corner looks like a painting, from the stone archways to the vibrant flowers spilling over balconies. Whether you’re visiting for the day or spending the night in one of its luxurious hotels, Eze is pure magic! Here are all of our suggestions…
Itinerary
We loved Eze, but you can really do it in a few hours (even if you do the hike). It could make a romantic home base for a night or two, but I would recommend it as a day trip. We visited first thing in the morning and the timing was perfect! It wasn’t too hot and it wasn’t too crowded. While I imagine sunsets are divine, we loved skipping the heat and crowds.

Airport / Train Stations
✈ Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) – Closest major airport, about 25–30 minutes away by car.
🚆 Eze-sur-Mer Train Station – Located at the bottom of the hill by the sea. From there, I would recommend hiking up the Nietzsche Path to reach the medieval village. But you could also take a bus or taxi.
Transportation
Bus – You can take the bus from the train station to the top
Taxi / Uber – We took a taxi from the top of Eze back down, as we didn’t want to hike again and we didn’t want to take the bus.
Top Things to Do in Eze
- Start by hiking the Nietzsche Path– it’s gorgeous!
- Climb to the top of the Exotic Garden for panoramic views. The ticket is well worth the price!
- Wander the cobblestone streets and pop into artisan shops.
- Visit the Fragonard Perfume Factory at the village entrance for a free tour and gift shop. We didn’t do this, but heard a few nice reviews from people we met.
- Enjoy a long lunch — Eze is all about slowing down. We enjoyed the most delicious Italian at La Taverne d’Antan à Eze. Some reviews say the staff aren’t friendly, but we found them incredibly kind. And the food was lovely!
- Take all the photos! The stone archways and flowers feel straight out of a movie set.

Recommendations
- Wear comfortable shoes if you intend to hike! I wore sandals and it wasn’t the wisest decision. Also, avoid heels, as the streets are cobblestone and date back to the 12th & 14th century.
- Go early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid tour bus crowds. We went early and it made the hike so much more managable- we also had fewer crowds.
- Eze is best paired with a visit to Monaco or Villefranche-sur-Mer if you’re planning a full day. We ended the day at Villefranche sur Mer to cool off.
- Bring water if you’re visiting in summer- it can get hot, and shade is limited… especially if you do the hike up!
