True statement- coffee stirs my affections for the Lord. There is something inspiring about holding a warm mug between your two hands on a chilly day. The caffeine boost doesn’t hurt either! ;) This week I have spent a lot of time sipping coffee and reading through my prayer journal. I love reading through old prayers and notes from old sermons. What a blessing it is to tangibly look back at the past and see how He has worked.
As many of you may have read, my husband and I are currently in a stage of simplifying and minimizing. And I would be lying if I told you it was easy. I’m struggling to get rid of items that I haven’t used in years. It has been my prayer that the Lord would soften my heart, open my eyes to what is important, and to help me let go of what is not. As I was reading through my prayer journal I was brought back to Ecclesiastes. And goodness it helped my heart.
“Meaningless! Meaningless… Everything is meaningless.” {NIV Ecclesiastes 1:2}
or
“”Vanity of vanities!… All is vanity.” {NASB Ecclesiastes 1:2}
Solomon had anything and everything at the tip of his fingers. All of the power, wealth, women, and popularity he could ever dream of- it was his. Yet he called it all vanity. All of it was meaningless. Last week Matt Chandler spoke truth into my life. He reminded my husband and I that we were all created for a purpose. And that purpose should impact our entire perspective. Everything is vanity, except His purpose.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31
{and yes, I most certainly will drink my coffee for His glory ;) }
I totally agree. There isn’t a day that my coffee and Bible do not go hand in hand. :)
