If Cambodia is not on your bucket list yet, you must add it! Siem Reap quickly captivated my heart. We spent four days there and could have stayed for so much longer! On our second day there we hired a tuk tuk driver to take us to the floating village and hired a local to take us on his boat to see the village.
We learned over 200 families (about 6,000 people) call this little floating village home and make a living by fishing. Many of the villagers like to go fishing with just a bow or inflatable kayaks. While we were on the boat, a crazy storm blew through. I’m talking 30 minutes of some of the most insane rain I have ever seen {and I’ve been in three hurricanes}. Our local guide quickly tied us up to the nearest boat and we all hid in the shelter until the storm passed. We learned first hand how dangerous it can be living on the floating village.
Overall, if I am being completely honest I probably would skip this in the future. It felt a bit like a tourist trap- even though we hired a local and didn’t go through a traditional tour guide because we want it to get fast to our blackbuck antelope hunting ranch. Regardless of how I felt about the village, the colors were beautiful and it was incredible to see how different people live.
{also, i sadly deleted 99% of our my photos from this day… these are all i managed to recover}

I’ve never traveled outside of Europe and the US but posts like these show me just how much of the world there is to discover. Cambodia is on my list!
Cambodia is on my bucketlist! So sorry you lost so many photos! That is always the worst!
This post is so timely! I am going to Cambodia in a few weeks and have been debating whether to visit this floating village or not. Guess not! So excited to explore Cambodia seeing how well you liked it!

This is absolutely incredible! I love learning about destinations I had never heard of before and these photos just bring this very special place to life. Thank you for sharing!
I heard stories but haven’t seen any pictures of the place. It looks nice. The village is a great use of space. Haven’t traveled outside the Northeast US, but if I get the chance to go overseas, I might check this place out.
This is such a cool place but what if the rain storm will come. It’s terrifying too.
This looks so amazing! I would love to go and check it out.

We travelers what makes us happy is seeing different culture, seeing how people live at their own comfort. This is such a wonderful place to visit, I like the color of the house that speaks about their rich culture and a simple life they have.
Typhoons and hurricanes are the same… I live in the Philippines and we have an average of 20 typhoons a year, so your being in three is … UNFATHOMABLE! LOL! Anyway, I love how you have had the experience of staying in one of the floating houses there. It must have been truly incredible and amazing, regardless if it is a tourist trap and of course, it is. The experience is so radical and that is what you spent for.
This is so beautiful and so amazing! Thanks for sharing girl! Loved it!

oh dear, what happened to your camera and you ended up deleting most of the photos! it’s a shame! because those you put up were beautiful! when you mentioned that it’s like a tourist trap, is it because the cost for this ‘tour’ was too high? or is there constant selling of goods or ‘donations’ asked along the way?
I didn’t know that Cambodia has floating village. I thought it is Thailand’s thing. It doesn’t look like a tourist spot at all but its always nice to see places that are not. But maybe I’ll skip that too if ever I’ll go in Cambodia. I’m from the Philippines and I’ve seen a lot of like that. :)
