A Table Experience

Confession- I am lost in the kitchen. After a year of living in Thailand and eating out every day, a couple months of traveling around the U.S. visiting family, and the past month of unpacking the boxes in our apartment- I think I have forgotten how to cook.

Prior to moving to Thailand, my parents gave me a book called “The Table Experience” by Devi Titus. If you have not read this book, you MUST!! Whether you are single, married, or have a family. This book is for you. I love it so much it actually plays a huge role in one of my goals for September.

I deeply believe in the importance of community and gathering together- whether this is as a family, with your spouse, or with your friends. I believe your table should be filled with laughter, stories, encouragement, and truth. The time spent around your table should be special and cherished.

My family was very intentional about sitting around the table every night growing up- and we frequently had friends or neighbors join us last minute.  I am thankful for the environment my parents created in our home and for the memories we spent bonding around our table. I yearn to recreate this tradition in my home.

While my cooking skills may be very limited and I may be quite overwhelmed at the thought of creating a menu for the week, I am determined to make our dining table a place of restoration, peace, joy, and community. I want our tiny apartment to be filled with His Spirit and our table to be covered in love.

So friends, I need your help. What are some of your favorite or go-to recipes? How do you prepare meals?

I enjoyed this post and it has motivated me to return to having family dinners at home as was my tradition prior to my husband and I taking a position at a boarding school where we model the behavior with our students but discontinue it on weekends due to being slumped over tired. Our daughter deserves us to maintain the tradition as I love the graphic above the exemplifies what coming together at the table is all about. Thank you for posting!

Coming together over food is one of my favorite things. It sets such a table for people feeling they have a place to belong. I host a group of women at my house for lunch each Friday and it is one of my favorite things to do. I try to choose meals that are easy to prep ahead of time so that when they arrive I am spending time with them, although I love pouring their drinks and serving them seconds or preparing their dessert plate. This time of year I especially lean on soups and crockpot recipes. I have great prayer and worship time as I am cooking, too. I can’t wait to hear how it goes for you! Please keep us posted!
