10 Goals Before My Next Birthday

A couple of weeks ago I turned 28. 27 was a good year for me, but I have a feeling 28 is going to be even better! I’m so excited to continue watching Cayson grow and to make more memories as a family.

As I enter this next year of life, there are certain things I want to accomplish- certain memories I want to make. They are nothing crazy or life changing, but rather are silly, small things. I believe life is made up of moments and I want to make the most of them. So here are 10 goals I yearn to accomplish before my next birthday.

before my next birthday

Cook at home more often :: We eat out or order in far more than I care to admit. This year I want to learn a go-to, ‘signature’ dish and cook at home more often.

Go to a Jazz club  ::  There are so many incredible jazz clubs in the city. I would love to visit one of them.

Travel to at least one new country :: I could return to Paris every other month and not grow tired of it. However, this year I really want to visit a country I’ve never been to. Any suggestions? What countries do you love?

Finish decorating our home :: In the 6+ years we’ve been married, we’ve lived in 3 different States (NYC, Texas, Missouri) , 2 countries (Thailand & US), and 3 different apartments in NYC. And while we did decorate a little in each apartment, I never fully decorated. Well, we’ve signed a 2 year lease in this apartment and plan on being here a while. So this is the year I finally decorate this apartment and make it a home!

Learn to count to 10 in 10 different languages  :: Okay, this is because Cayson and I count to 10 in the 4 languages I do know every day. We have a little old-school play toy with 10 rows and 10 balls. We count on it multiple times a day.

See at least one more Broadway show  :: Caleb & I haven’t seen a Broadway show since I was about 6 months pregnant with Cayson. We used to go see shows all the time. We love musicals!

Visit Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket or somewhere in that general area :: There are so many incredible places just a train ride or drive away from NYC. I want to take advantage of it this year!

Practice yoga more often :: My love for yoga was reignited when we lived in Thailand, but I haven’t practiced much since returning to the States. I would love to begin practicing again.

Start painting again :: I used to love painting. I’m definitely not great at it, but it’s therapeutic to me and I love watching the colors slowly transform into an image.

Host more :: My parents truly have the gift of hospitality. Growing up people were ALWAYS at our home. Some weekend mornings I would walk downstairs and find my friends had invited themselves over and were just hanging out with my parents- ha. I want to start hosting people over for lunch and dinner more often!

Hosting friends is a great way to get to know people, especially our kids friends. If you feed them, they will come. 😀

This is such a cool idea! As for country suggestions, Ireland and the Netherlands are two of my favorites. They’re both BEAUTIFUL and full of things to do, and you can always hop on a cheap flight or on the train if you want to fit Paris in as well!

I bet you find when you start to cook more at home you will host more too. I find cooking in is quicker and way cheaper than eating out and just as much fun when you have friends and family round too.

Love love love. I need to make a list like this. And if you’re heading to the cape stay at my mother in law’s bed and breakfast. It’s in Yarmouth, you can take a quick ferry to martha’s vineyard if you’d like. You won’t regret it!
