I love traveling, but man is traveling hard on the skin. Over the years I’ve finally figured out the tips and tricks for skincare when traveling- from quick trips to international flights. Here are 10 skincare tips while traveling!
1.) Exfoliate :: I try to exfoliate 2-4 times a week. But I definitely exfoliate the day of the trip and the day after a trip. It just helps reset my skin and allows my skin to really absorb and moisturizer I put on top. {my favorite exfoliator is on sale for $23 here!}
2.) Moisturize :: This might be obvious, but make sure you really moisturize at least 3 days before and 3 days after a flight. I’ve found my eyes and lips get the driest- so I focus on adding extra moisture to both locations. {A few of my go-tos here, here, here & here}
3.) In flight mask :: I wear this face mask every single time I fly. Literally every time. It adds so much moisture to my skin and helps keep me hydrated. And no one can tell I’m wearing a face mask, since it goes on your skin like a normal moisturizer. Technically the instructions say to wear it either for 5-10 minutes or over night, but anytime my skin is feeling dehydrated I wear it all day. It’s amazing! It’s $39 & if you invest in one thing- this should be it. It’s my cure-all for flat looking skin.
4.) Wash your hands :: Airplanes are filled with bacteria. Wash your hands as much as possible. The last thing you want is to touch bacteria on the plane and then bring that bacteria to your face.
5.) Leave your skin makeup free :: Flying somehow dehydrates you and leaves your skin extra greasy. When traveling I wear eye make up and lipstick, but skip any skin makeup. Flying makes it hard for your skin to breathe, makeup makes it even harder for your skin to breathe. Forgo the few hours of perfect skin for a week of clear skin. I also like to use a sunless tanner the day before my flight so my skin has some extra color on it without the makeup. I use a $9 one from Target.
6.) Samples :: There are a handful of skincare items I buy again and again and again. When I find an item I love, I ask if they have samples of it whenever I purchase the item. I stock up on these samples and save them for traveling. Sample sizes always get through TSA.
7.) Hydrate :: Flying is dehydrating. And while I try to drink as much water as possible while flying, I also don’t want to have to use the bathroom a hundred times a flight {hello, I have a toddler to watch}. Liquid IV has become my go-to when traveling. {Apparently I’m late in the game with Liquid IV. A few dozen of you messaged me raving about how much you love it when I posted it for the first time}. Add a liquid IV stick to your water bottle and it makes your water bottle 2-3 times more hydrating. It’s amazing! Seriously. I always pack at least one Liquid IV stick per day for both Caleb & myself. I swear by them!!! Hydration also helps with jet lag- so it’s win win. Use the code ChloeBArnold for a discount. I finally gave in and joined the subscription, I reordered that many times… The acia berry is my favorite.
8.) Facial mist :: I keep a facial mist on my desk at all times. Any time I need a quick pick-me-up I give myself a spritz. But I really love it when traveling. It adds the extra bit of hydration needed. At home I use Trader Joes $4 Rose Mist, but traveling I use this one. My parents actually travel with a portable humidifier. If we didn’t have our hands full with a toddler, I would totally use a portable humidifier too!
9.) Sleep :: Your skin heals when your sleeping. Do your best to get a good nights rest before and after a flight. I’m all for taking melatonin or a natural supplement to help make your drowsy.
10.) Keep your hair off your face :: I like to wear a headband, a braid or a light ponytail to keep my hair off my face, just so there is no extra grease on my skin. These headbands have been my go-to {6 for $16- aka $2.66 per headband}
Bonus
11.) Avoid alcohol :: Alcohol is dehydrating, so avoid it when traveling. Although, I do have to admit that I do indulge in a glass or two when traveling. But I do cap it at 2 glasses of wine when flying. Just make sure you drink an extra glass of water for every glass of wine you drink.

Awesome suggestions! If only my skin was clear enough for me to not worry about skin makeup when traveling. I always have to wear *something* – even if it’s just a BB cream! But I definitely agree it’s better without, and all your tips are fantastic.
These photos are adorable!
Great tips! I have dry skin, so I’m definitely taking all of these tips into consideration.
Happy Friday!
These are awesome tips! I know for me that when I’m traveling I’m thinking about a million different things at once and skincare goes right out the window. This post was so helpful!

Some really great suggestions. I get lazy on vacation and don’t care of my skin but some of these are super easy. I’ll try it out next time
I always break out when traveling. I might have to try not wearing makeup on the flight. Maybe that will do the trick for me!
