Sentence six is also pretty short and easy. And like sentence five, it is also about the Old Testament.
The 39 books of the Old Testament are divided into 17 Historical Books, 5 Poetical Books, and 17 Prophetical Books.
In the Old Testament there are three different types of books—books of History, Poetry, and Prophecy. In the Table of Contents the first seventeen are the books of History; the next five are the books of Poetry, and the final seventeen are the books of Prophecy.
The seventeen Historical Books and the seventeen Prophetical Books are broken up into two groups. That is because the first five books of the Bible (Genesis – Deuteronomy) were written by Moses and are often lumped together under names like the Pentateuch, the Law, the Torah, or the Law of Moses. Therefore, they are sometimes set apart from the other twelve Historical Books (Joshua – Esther).
And the seventeen Prophetical Books are often broken up into two groups, the Major Prophets (Isaiah – Daniel) and the Minor Prophets (Hosea – Malachi). This will be considered later in the presentation.
So, the easiest way to think about the Old Testament is seventeen, five, seventeen —that is seventeen Historical books, five Poetical books, and seventeen Prophetical books, but it is also accurate to think five, twelve, five, five, twelve —that is five books of the Law, twelve Historical Books, five Poetical Books, five Major Prophets, and twelve Minor Prophets.
Day 11- Grace. I am so thankful that despite my sin and struggles the Lord’s grace is renewed daily!
