Our 3 Days in London Itinerary

London deserves to be on everyones bucket list for a reason. There really is no place like it. London is timeless, yet ever-changing. It’s steeped in history, yet modern & updated. I’ve visited London multiple times and enjoy it more after each visit. Although I will say, this most recent visit was definitely my favorite visit thus far. We had only 3 days in London and we really made the most of it! Even if you’ve been to London multiple times, I believe it is always important to find new recommendations. I love learning from others experiences. Almost everything we did this trip was a recommendation from someone we know. And let me tell you- they did not disappoint! You’re going to want to try all of these!

Day 1

Day 1 we arrived in London. We took a redeye flight from LA and checked into the Marylebone Hotel around lunch time. We quickly freshened up and hit the ground running. We started exploring the area around us, as it was our first time staying in Marylebone. And let me tell you- I LOVE this area! Marylebone is a vibrant neighborhood in central London filled with shops, restaurants and cafés. It’s extremely walkable and has a lot of personality. I loved how it felt both fast-paced & exciting, yet it maintained a neighborhood feel.

We then continued walking to explore Mayfair, Soho & a little bit of China town. As we continued exploring the jet lag began to set in, so we decided to go for an early dinner at the Coach Makers Arms. And it was divine!! 12/10 recommend! We didn’t have reservations, but we arrived early and were seated in a charming table by the fireplace. It felt like we were on set for a movie. It was stunning! We were both craving fish & chips and they were delicious! Next time, Caleb & I will order fish & chips plus something different so we can split meals {as the fish was HUGE & could easily be split}! And so many items on the menu looked gorgeous.

We then walked back to the hotel to enjoy the turn down service and freshly laid out slippers.

Day 2

Day 2 was actually the reason for our trip. Caleb has been a diehard Liverpool FC fan his whole life and watching Klopp coach Liverpool at Anfield had been on his bucket list for years. And on January 26 {Caleb’s birthday}, it was announced that Klopp was retiring. So we decided it was now or never and we booked the trip!

So on day 2 we woke up early, walked to a local bakery to grab croissants and came back to enjoy them in our hotel lounge. We then grabbed the train and headed up to Liverpool. I was surprised to learn how many Liverpool fans were taking the train to and from London with us that day. We met so many lovely people and I loved hearing some of their stories.

If going to a Premier League game is even remotely of interest to you- DO IT! It was such a fun experience and I was surprised at how different it was to attending a game in the US. The clubs are steeped in history & the environment was magnetic. {I was glad I looked up the differences before we left, as Caleb & I would have showed up looking like Americans wearing Liverpool jerseys. No one in our section was wearing jerseys and everyone was dressed nicely with pops of red.}

We then took the train back to London and changed for dinner. We walked over to The Ivy Marylebone for a delicious dinner. The Truffle Arancini rice balls were divine, but honestly everything we ate was gorgeous. I would absolutely eat there again!

Day 3

Day 3 was my favorite day in London. My favorite way to explore a city is simply by walking around aimlessly. So that is exactly what we did. We started the morning by meandering around as we headed towards Covent Gardens to meet some friends. It started to rain on us, so we hopped into The Gentlemen Baristas for a drink and a snack. We had a lovely window seat and enjoyed people watching until the rain stopped.

Afterwards we met our friends who came to London from the Brighton area. {Fun fact, we met them when we lived in Thailand about 10 years ago & we’ve been to 5 countries with them!} This was our first time meeting their daughter and it was so fun exploring London together. Their daughter had 2 requests- we go to Hamley’s {the toy shop founded in 1760} & we see Big Ben. And of course we happily obliged! We did a little shopping and then spent a few hours exploring Hyde Park & Westminster. We then grabbed a quick bite together before they headed home and we went on for our next adventure.

When we were planning this trip, we knew it was going to be a fast trip. So I wanted to see as much as possible. But I also really wanted to enjoy an afternoon tea. Through some research, I stumbled on Brigit’s Afternoon Tea Bus Tour. Because what’s better than riding a double decker bus around London while sipping tea & enjoying delicious treats? We opted to add a bottle of champagne to our tea and it was truly such a fun experience! Even my parents said they want to do it on their next trip to London.

After the tour we explored a bit of Belgravia and Chelsea before walking through Hyde Park as we headed back to our hotel. We then quickly changed for dinner and walked to the Chiltern Firehouse. We loved people watching while we enjoyed our food and drinks. It was the perfect end to our trip. And we’re already dreaming of our return to London!

    I too love aimlessly wandering around a city. Did you make it up to North London such as Highgate Village? My favorite part of the city — you’re in London but you also feel like you’re in a village.
