I would love to tell you that I fly business class every time we go to Europe. I do not.
When you are buying four international tickets, coach is often the practical choice. While I cannot create a lie-flat seat or convince the airline to serve dinner on real china, I can make our little corner of the cabin feel calmer, cleaner and considerably more comfortable.
My goal is to recreate the parts of premium travel that matter most to me: feeling organized, being able to rest, having my favorite entertainment ready and arriving without feeling completely depleted. These are the small upgrades I pack to make an economy flight feel a little more like business or first class.

I Create My Own Sleep Kit
One of the nicest parts of a premium cabin is the little sleep kit waiting at your seat. In coach, I bring my own, and mine includes things I already know I find comfortable.
Trtl Travel Pillow
The Trtl Travel Pillow gives my neck much more support than a traditional U-shaped pillow. Its wraparound design helps keep my head from falling forward when I begin to drift off, yet it is compact enough to carry through the airport. If sleep is your priority, this is the upgrade I would start with.
Two-in-One Travel Blanket and Pillow
I never want to depend on an airline blanket. My two-in-one travel blanket is soft, folds into its own pillow and attaches to my luggage. Having a clean, cozy layer that I chose myself instantly makes an economy seat feel more inviting.
Blackout Sleep Mask and Loop Quiet Earplugs
A contoured blackout mask and Loop Quiet earplugs help create a small retreat even when the rest of the cabin is still awake. The mask blocks glowing screens and reading lights without pressing against my eyes, while the earplugs soften engine noise and conversation.
Together, these four products are as close as I can get to creating my own miniature bedroom at 35,000 feet.

I Make the Seat More Comfortable
The seat itself may still be coach, but a few small changes can make it feel much less uncomfortable.
Compression Socks
I put on compression socks before boarding. They help my legs and feet feel more comfortable during a long stretch of sitting, and I am always grateful I packed them when we still have several hours left in the air.
Airplane Foot Hammock
Because my feet do not always rest comfortably on the floor, an airplane foot hammock can make a surprisingly noticeable difference. It gives my feet a place to rest and makes it easier to change positions throughout the flight. This is an inexpensive little upgrade that can make a coach seat feel far more tailored to your body.

I Upgrade My Own Entertainment
Business-class passengers may receive better headphones and more dependable charging, so I bring my own version.
AirFly
The AirFly connects AirPods or Bluetooth headphones to the airplane entertainment system. I can watch a movie using headphones I already love without a cord stretched across my seat. It is tiny, easy to use and one of my favorite travel gadgets.
High-Capacity Portable Charger
I do not leave my battery percentage up to the airplane outlet. A portable power bank keeps our phones, tablets and headphones charged through the flight and into our arrival day. It removes one more source of travel stress, which always feels luxurious to me.
Portable batteries belong in your carry-on, and it is important to check your airline’s current battery restrictions before traveling.
Electronics Organizer
A premium cabin feels calm partly because everything has a place. I recreate that feeling with an electronics organizer for our cables, adapters, earbuds and AirFly. When one of my boys needs a charger, I can reach for a single pouch instead of searching through the bottom of my bag.

I Bring My Own Refresh Kit
There is something so refreshing about washing your face and brushing your teeth before landing. I keep a miniature version of a first-class amenity kit in my personal item.
Wet Ones Travel Packs
The first thing I do after sitting down is wipe the tray table, armrests and entertainment controls with a Wet Ones travel pack. I also keep them nearby for snacks and sticky hands. Starting with a clean space makes it much easier to settle in.
Liquid I.V. Hydration Packets
Airplane cabins are incredibly dry, so I add a Liquid I.V. packet to a bottle of water and make hydration part of my in-flight routine. It is a simple step, but it helps me feel more prepared for the long travel day and the time-zone adjustment waiting on the other side.
Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm
I keep Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm within reach throughout the flight. It feels hydrating, looks polished and adds a small touch of luxury to an otherwise very practical travel kit.
Colgate Wisp Disposable Toothbrushes
A Colgate Wisp is one of my favorite before-landing essentials. It is waterless, individually sized and so much easier than unpacking a complete toiletry bag in the airplane bathroom. Freshening my breath before breakfast service or landing immediately makes me feel more human.

My “Coach to First Class” Routine
The products help, but the real difference comes from using them intentionally.
Once we board, I clean our space, organize the chargers and set up everyone’s entertainment. After dinner, I hydrate, brush my teeth, apply lip balm and turn my seat into sleep mode with the blanket, pillow, mask and earplugs. Before landing, I freshen up again and put everything back into its designated pouch.
It is not an actual first-class seat. But the feeling of being prepared, comfortable and cared for makes the entire experience noticeably better.
Luxury travel is not always about the price of the ticket. Sometimes it is having the right blanket when the cabin becomes cold, using your own headphones for a movie, or brushing your teeth before landing in Paris.
Each item in this collection solves a small but real coach-class frustration. Together, they make an overnight flight feel calmer, more comfortable and much more enjoyable.
