Captivating

Let me begin by saying, I love to read. There are few things more relaxing to me than sitting down with a good book and a drink- typically black coffee or green tea. Right now I am reading “Captivating” by John & Stasi Eldredge. This book is about a woman’s heart and her role in the world. (I absolutely recommend this book! The men’s version “Wild at Heart” is one of my father’s favorites as well. My fiancé just started reading it also. Check these books out here)

In the second chapter of this book Stasi brings up a verse most of us are familiar with. Genesis 1:27 reminds us that we are created in God’s image. When I used to think about the fact that we are modeled after God, I thought about our physical bodies. I had never thought that our emotions and personalities are also modeled after the Lord.

Generally speaking women yearn for romance, relationships, adventure, beauty and so many other things. Stasi points out in her book, if WE yearn for these things… that means the Lord does too. He wants to share these things with us. He wants to be romanced, wants a relationship, wants to go on adventures together and wants his beauty to shine through you.

Thus far, one of my favorite questions Stasi has asked is:

“When you are with a woman, ask yourself, what is she telling me about God?”

She continues by stating:

“First, you’ll discover that God is relational to his core, that he has a heart for romance. Second, that he longs to share adventures with us- adventures you cannot accomplish without Him. And finally, that God has a beauty to unveil. A beauty that is captivating and powerfully redemptive.”

When you are with others, what are you telling them about God? Not just with words, but with your actions.

Do you have any other good book suggestions?
