Controlling the Roller Coasters (Day 48)

I have no idea why, but when reading today’s verse the first thing that came to my mind was a roller coaster. When you ride a roller coaster it is sometimes scary to let go of the security bar that holds you down and to lift your hands above your head. There is something comforting about holding on. But once you do finally gather the courage to loosen your grip on the security bar you find yourself free. It is an exhilarating feeling to surrender to the power of the ride. It is great knowing that regardless of how tight you hold on, you will never be able to control where you are headed. Once you grasp this concept you realize that you are safe and may then simply enjoy the ride. Today’s verse begins by stating “I lift up my hands to your commands” which reminds me that similarly to the roller coaster, we need to surrender.  No matter how much we try to control the things on this earth, God is the one in control. While we are here on this “ride” of life we must not only recognize that the HE is in control but also take joy in that fact! Praise the Lord God is in control of my life and not me!

“I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love,
and I meditate on your decrees.”
Psalm 119:48
