Fall is easily my favorite time of the year! There is something magic about the cool crisp air, the scent of wood burning fires blowing in the breeze, the vibrant colors of the changing foliage, and the overall sense of change. And the oversized sweaters and warm drinks are an added bonus!
Each year, I like to make a bucket list for the fall. The season seems to get shorter each year, so I want to make certain I make the most of it. Here are a few things on my fall bucket list this year!
- Spend time in NYC :: We spent the better part of the last decade in New York City and officially moved away this summer. But my mom and I are headed to NYC in early November for a little mother/daughter getaway!
- Walk/hike through fall foliage :: While the Northeast does fall unlike any place I’ve ever seen, I am excited to see the rolling hills of the Ozarks covered in fall foliage! I already know exactly where I want to go walk when the trees are in peak!
- Bake pumpkin cookies :: You can find my favorite pumpkin recipe here! Tip- double the recipe and freeze the extra dough by rolling it into the shape of a log and wrap it in saran wrap. When you have guests over or want a cookie, slice the log into cookies & bake them! And voila, you can have fresh, homemade cookies anytime you want! I actually think they are even better after they’ve been frozen.
- Visit a farmers market :: In New York we frequented the local farmers markets. I haven’t found any great ones in Branson yet, but I’ve heard they get better with fall!
- Go apple picking :: I’m not certain if apple picking will happen this year, which makes me sad. We’ve gone apple picking in Upstate NY every fall for the past 6+ years and it’s always a highlight. I’m keeping my fingers crossed we can find a place to go apple picking this fall.
- Go to a Fall Festival :: One upside of Branson is that they love to celebrate holidays in a big way! There are literally dozens of fall festivals in the Branson area. I already have my eye on a couple I know I want to visit.
- Carve a pumpkin :: Cayson LOVES pumpkins. I’ve never been a fan of halloween, but ever since October 2020 he has been obsessed with jack-o-lanterns. So we will 100% be carving and painting pumpkins this year.
- Burn a fall scented candle :: I really love this scent, this scent & this set. This diffuser is also incredible! We also have a Pura in our living room and love their scents!
- Make s’mores :: We have a Solostove on our back deck and I am so excited to sit around it and make s’mores as the weather gets cooler! In NYC we obviously didn’t have access to a real bonfire/fireplace, so we used this in our apartment! It actually cooks them perfectly! It makes a great Christmas present or hostess gift!
- Run through a corn maze :: Cayson thinks it’s hysterical getting lost in the corn maze. And I KNOW Ciaran and Cayson will have a blast doing this together!
- Enjoy a hot apple cider :: Caleb loves a good hot apple cider!
- Wear a cozy sweater :: I bought this sweater on black from Amazon last year and loved it so much I bought it in beige too! If I didn’t own it already, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
- Go on a hay ride :: Cayson always love going on hay rides around apple orchards {watch him even smiling/laughing on the hayride in the rain here}. Last year Ciaran was a bit too young to really realize what was going on, but I know he’ll love it this year!
- Order your Christmas cards :: I try to order ours before Thanksgiving so we can send them out right around Thanksgiving! We received our first Christmas card in EARLY November last year & it brings me so much joy!! We keep ours on display through New Years!
on me:
jacket Burberry :: boots Fairfax & Favor :: scarf Hermes
backpack Neely & Chloe
on Cayson:
jacket :: sweater :: pants
I can’t think of a better bucket list than this one. These are all such perfect fall activities to do as a family.
This list is very similar to the one I make every year for our family. There are some staples on it, but I always try to add new things every year.
I love hay rides during the fall. They’re so peaceful, and they have this vibe that brings me back to simpler times.
Apple picking is a must for me each fall! Plus, I love making applesauce and apple butter each year. So yummy!
Apple cider is a yes from me. My kids like to get lost in the corn mazes too. Happy Fall!
Wow! This list is so good, almost everything we want to do in the Fall season! For us, we prefer pumpkin and apple picking and this is a must every Fall season! Loved it!

Can’t wait to go apple picking. Thanks for the reminder re. Christmas cards too.
Such a great list! I wish we could do apple picking here!
A fall festival sounds like so much fun! I’m looking forward to making pumpkin-spiced cupcakes. Your pictures look so lovely, really like the autumnal colours.
