Easter is just around the corner and I could not be more excited! While I have thoroughly enjoyed the winter, I am ready for spring. Growing up my family had tons of Easter traditions. Now that Caleb and I have started hosting holidays and are looking to the future, I’ve started dreaming about the traditions we will make.
One of my favorite traditions has always been the Resurrection Eggs. If you don’t have a set of these yet, go buy them now! Seriously. We did them every year growing up and will continue doing them for years to come {with or without kids}. To this day, my parents still hide the eggs around the backyard or around the home. I don’t think it will ever get old. :) After all the hidden eggs are found, we sit around our table and my dad leads us through the eggs. Each egg contains a symbol, which tells part of the resurrection story. Trust me, it’s a must do.
While searching for the Resurrection Eggs, we would also search for our Easter baskets. Mom and dad would always fill our baskets with See’s Chocolates, fun little goodies and day-to-day essentials {the younger me would laugh at how excited the adult me gets when receiving socks and toothpaste}. Below are a few ideas of what could go well in an Easter Basket.
1. Easter egg dye kits like this one or this one {another tradition we will continue}2. TOMS sunglasses {who doesn’t like a gift that gives back?!}
3. Socks {everyone needs socks}
4. Book a home or apartment for an upcoming trip! {adventure is always a good idea!}
5. TOMS shoes {how cute are these kids shoes?!}
6. Dylan’s Candy {a NYC staple! Also, you get 25% off through Sunday @ midnight and free shipping!}
7. White converse for him or her {my go-to shoe}
8. Resurrection eggs {start the tradition now!}
9. Bronzer {if I am only using one makeup item- this is it}
10. Easter eggs {fill them with candy, coins or Bible verses}
11. Cooking class at Sur la Table {I love making memories, so I love the idea of a cooking class. But new kitchen supplies are always fun too!}
12. A getaway package {adventure and no stressful planning- count me in!}
Since moving to New York City, my parents have added a new tradition. {This will probably be another favorite of mine when we have kids- my heart melts just thinking about it}. When hiding the Resurrection Eggs, they also hide additional eggs filled with a Bible verse and change- ranging from 50 cents to a couple dollars. Instead of keeping the money for ourselves, we keep the change-filled-eggs in our workbags or purse and give them to homeless people throughout the week. It’s just an easy way to share Jesus and bless others.
What are some of your favorite Easter traditions?
Making Easter Bonnets for the parade is a great one too!
