Paris in the Fall :: What to Pack & Where to Find the Best Fall Foliage

Paris is always a good idea- it’s true. But there is something even more magical about Paris in the fall. We visited Paris October 11-17 and then 26-29 and the weather was incredible! I cannot recommend visiting Paris in the fall enough! Here are my tips if you plan on visiting this time of year.

What to Pack

The average temperatures range from 46-62°F in the fall, but for our first stint in Paris the weather was incredibly warm. We literally had to go buy Caleb some short sleeve shirts. Our second stint in Paris was much cooler- some days were actually very chilly. So literally pack a little bit of everything.

In the fall, layering is key. In the morning and evening it’s the perfect amount of chilly, but midday was quite warm. So I wore a lot of tank tops and layered them with either sweaters or blazers. I also kept either my trench coat or leather jacket under our stroller for when the temperatures began to fall. I would also pack either a rain jacket or pick up an umbrella because it did rain on us a couple of times. But the rain didn’t stop us from exploring.

Best Places to See Fall Foliage

  • Arc de Triomph :: This is one of my favorite viewpoints for all of Paris.
  • Avenue de Camoens :: Photographers flock to this location for the picturesque views of the Eiffel Tower. Cayson loved running around this little street and we loved the views of the Eiffel Tower and the foilage.
  • Jardin des Luxembourg :: Between the gorgeous flowers and the fall foliage, be prepared to spend a good chunk of time soaking in the beauty of this park.
  • Jardin des Tuileries :: Located near the Louvre. This is one of my favorite gardens in the city year round, but it is stunning in the fall!
  • La Maison Rose :: This little house is a popular go-to for photographers and bloggers because it is so picturesque. But the view from Place Dalida & rue de l’Abreuvoir, which is just down the road looking up at La Maison Rose, has the most spectacular view of ivy and trees.
  • Musée d’Orsay :: The view through the clock this time of year is UNREAL!
  • Notre Dame :: Behind the Notre Dame is the prettiest little garden. It’s a little less picture perfect right now due to the repairs taking place on the cathedral, but it’s still worth visiting.
  • Palais Royal :: The gardens are stunning!
  • Place des Vosges :: This is the oldest public planned square and it is absolutely stunning in the fall.
  • Pont de Bir-Hakeim :: The views of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine river are stunning from this bridge! You can see tons of fall foliage from this location.
  • Seine :: Really any stroll along the Seine is breathtaking this time of year. And there is a long path you can walk along down by the water. A river cruise is another great option if your feet get tired!

What to Do

I would start by visiting my overall suggestions on what to do in Paris first. Make a list of all the things on your ‘must do’ list, but then also recognize that it DOES rain a decent amount in the fall. Keep in mind, the rain might only last 10-30 minutes.

One of my favorite things to do in the fall is to simply sit outside at a café and people watch. For the most part- the weather is lovely, the foliage is gorgeous, the fall fashion is impressive and of course the coffee/hot chocolate/wine is always perfect.

I used to live and work in Paris and I love it when the fall comes in. Walking along the canals and through the parks and seeing the changing colours of the leaves is totally amazing in this romantic city. If you find the right spots, it can be truly magicial.

Oui oui to Paris, especially in autumn. I’ve not been in a while, and your post is a good reminder of what I need to pack. La Maison Rose and the Seine are great choices to catch the autumn leaves!

I always find layering a wardrobe like this to be key! It gives you the most flexibility, and if you color coordinate it also allows you to pack light. Love the looks you choose, too. Tres chic! (Great foliage destination list, too. I would have never thought of Paris for foliage.)
