Anyone else out there adore reading books? There are few things I love more than finding a new book that inspires my soul. But sometimes, it’s just nice to reread an old favorite book. I am always surprised by how much I had forgotten. Currently, I am reading through “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” by Donald Miller. Almost every page in my book has a highlight or a note.
The entire book is about the story we tell. As a self-proclaimed dreamer, adventurer, and writer, I always seem to find myself dreaming about Caleb and my future. What will it look like, where will we be, when will we start a family, etc. But in this book Miller reminds us that our lives tell a story. So rather than thinking about what our future will look like, I should be focused on what our story will look like. What story will our lives tell?
Miller points out that “good stories don’t happen by accident… They are planned.” Yesterday I set aside a good chunk of time to just sit, read, and reflect. Miller’s book is a book you could easily fly through. But I have learned that I glean more wisdom from a book when I take time to sit, reflect, and journal what I am learning. While I was reflecting yesterday, I began to think of individuals whose lives tell a story. I could imagine movies being made about the lives of these men and women. And I know the movies would be inspiring. I want that.
I want my life, my story, to inspire. I want to listen to the Lord’s whispers so I can follow His direction. Because God is the ultimate author. He is the ultimate story teller. And God writes the best stories.
Can you think of any inspiring individuals who are living good, inspiring stories?
I think your life is pretty inspiring! Moving away from everything and everyone you know to serve the people of another country….. WOW!!! You and Caleb are in my prayers, and i’m blessed each time I read your posts. Thank you for always sharing your heart!
You are far too kind Mandi :) Blessed the Lord gave my husband and me a heart for other cultures and the opportunity to travel to them and love on them. Praying for you sweet friend! xox
WOw!! I love this so much Chloe! I haven’t picked up a book by Donald Miller for a while, and I really want to. Our lives are indeed stories, and I love that we can also fit into God’s grander narrative to redeem humanity. So glad we found each other’s blogs, my friend! :)
