Prior to visiting Berlin, I had never really spent any time in Germany. It’s a city rich with history and I’m still shocked at how much of the history took place in either my lifetime and/or my parents lifetime. During our time in Berlin we stayed at the Sofitel Gendarmenmarkt Berlin. It was located on one of the most beautiful, old squares in the city. Despite the city being so large, each night we found ourselves staying near the hotel and exploring the square and nearby architecture. We absolutely loved the hotel’s neighborhood and the sunsets over the square were incredible!
We arrived in Berlin early in the morning, so we were told our room wouldn’t be ready for a few hours. However, it turned out to be a blessing because they stored our luggage for us and we enjoyed the most delicious meal at the hotel’s downstairs restaurant. I don’t normally eat at hotel restaurants for lunch or dinner, but the food was so good we ended up eating there twice! And before we finished our meal, the staff informed us our bags had already been delivered to our room and we were welcome to head upstairs when we were ready.
While the room was decently small, the bed was overwhelmingly comfortable {I actually told Caleb & I wanted to get their exact bedding- it was like sleeping on a cloud!} and the view was stunning! The layout of the room and the high end finishes made the room and the bathroom feel luxurious, despite the size. Each night Caleb and I enjoyed a glass of wine in our room while looking out at the square. The sitting area in the room was the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring and the windows let in the most gorgeous natural lighting!
Whenever we travel we try to enjoy the hotel breakfast. While the breakfast food at the hotel was delicious, I was most impressed with their drink selection. Each morning I had a pot of tea {check out the tea selection below!}, a coffee and a glass of German sparkling wine! Trust me, breakfast at the Sofitel Gendarmenmarkt is a must! The presentation of it all was gorgeous and the room where breakfast is served was beautiful.
Overall I was very impressed with the Sofitel Gendarmenmarkt Berlin and would stay there again in a heartbeat. The location, bed and exceptional service were definitely the highlights of the hotel.
I would definitely stay at the Sofitel when visiting Berlin. Stunning views. What a comfortable bed and bedroom. I enjoy hotel breakfasts and I can imagine enjoying this one before a day of sightseeing.
I love staying at Sofitel hotels and this one in Berline stole my heart. Though you mentioned the room was small, It wouldn’t bother me at all because I loved the view from your room and moreover there is so much to do around.
We are headed to Berlin in a few months and were struggling on whether we should stay on the east side or west side! If you were to go back, would you stay here again or explore the other side? Or if it were your first time- what would be your preference?
We’re visiting Berlin this summer on a cruise, so we won’t have the opportunity to stay overnight. But if we were, this hotel looks like a good choice! I like how it’s centrally located, and I also love a good comfy bed. A mediocre bed can really ruin a vacation, so I always check reviews to see if guests say that they slept well. You’re right, Berlin really has an amazing amount of history, even just looking at the past hundred years or so. I’m so looking forward to visiting the city for our brief tour!
This place looks absolutely lovely! I visited Berlin many times but never heard about it tho. I’ll definitely keep it in mind if I ever come back to Berlin. Thanks for the recommendation.
What a coincidence. When we visited Berlin, we also stayed near our hotel (in the city center) and nearby sights. The hotel’s tea selection is impressive! The hotel breakfast looks appetizing too. I would love to stay there when we return to Berlin!
The Sofitel Gendaemenmarkt Berlin sounds like our ideal hotel! It looks luxurious from the food to the bedding and the stunning views. When we visit we will definitely check out this hotel. Thank you for the excellent recommendation.
Sofitel Gendarmenmarkt Berlin sounds great because of the location! I am always looking for places that located in the city centre, walkable from tourist sites and lively squares and the hotel seems to nail that requirement. Also, you’re right that the rooms are small but that never bothers me, as long as the beds are comfortable! After all, how much time does one spend in the bedroom anyway?
Thanks for sharing about staying in Berlin at SOFITEL GENDARMENMARKT BERLIN which really looks splendid. Also, the view from your room is really great. I loved its location as it is at the famous central square. Good to know that they serve delicious breakfast and arranged elegantly too.
All well if you sleep well – so yes, bedding is very important and I can see, Sofitel Gendarmenmarkt has one of the best bedding scenes of Berlin. I would love to sleep deeply in one of those comfortable beds. What else you need a hotel for while in Berlin? Whole day city hopping and a great bed to sleep at night and you have got it right during your stay there.
We are headed there in October!! Thanks for the tip on where to stay. Love your Berlin tips post too!
This excellent website truly has all of the information I wanted concerning this subject and didn’t know who to ask.
