Two Gifts

I don’t know if this is true in your life, but it definitely is in mine. There are times when I feel so overwhelmed with the Lord’s love and His blessings that I can’t help but walk around with a smile. Then there are other times where, although nothing is going wrong, the joy just isn’t there. I am aware that I have the ability to choose joy at any given point, but for some reason it is just not easy. As much as I hate to admit it, recently I have found myself not rejoicing in the showers of blessings the Lord has given me. For the last few days (maybe longer) I’ve been pessimistic and not my normal self. But the Lord is so good. He used today’s devotionals as a way of reminding me of His splendor. I’ve made the decision that when I wake up tomorrow I will choose joy and I will be optimistic in all things- even that is not my first inclination.

I am God with you, for all time and throughout eternity. Don’t let the  familiarity of that concept numb its impact on your consciousness. My perpetual Presence with you can be a continual source of Joy, springing up and flowing out in streams of abundant Life. Let your mind reverberate with meaning of My Names: Jesus-the Lord saves, and Emmanuel-God with us. Strive to remain conscious of My Presence even in you busiest moments. Talk with Me about whatever delights you, whatever upsets you, whatever is on your mind. These tiny steps of daily discipline, taken one after the other will keep you close to Me on the path of Life.
