Earlier this year Caleb and I had the opportunity to spend a long weekend at America’s Resort- the Greenbrier. It was a perfect weekend full of whimsical colors, southern hospitality, delicious food and days full of activities. If you ever have the chance to make it to the Greenbrier in Sulphur Springs- go! Without hesitation. My family used to spend a week here each summer, but it had been years since I had returned. We are already dreaming up our next trip and hope to bring his family along this next time.
If you are planning a trip here, these are a few of the things you MUST do to make the most of your Greenbrier Resort!
- Enjoy the colorful decor :: From the bold patterns to the bright colors. Be sure your wardrobe is filled with vivid colors.
- Spend a morning in the spa :: Their facials and massages are divine! Be sure to show up at least an hour {or more} prior to your first appointment so you can enjoy the various saunas and then spend time relaxing in the gorgeous spa sitting room with a glass of cucumber water. I love going early and doing this before my treatments so I don’t end up sweating out all of the moisturizers just applied to my skin.
- Daily afternoon tea :: If you follow me on instagram, you likely know I adore my daily afternoon tea. And the Greenbrier really steps it up a notch. Each afternoon the Greenbrier serves an afternoon tea in the Upper Lobby. They offer complimentary tea, delicious cookies and sweet treats for all resort guests. It is such a special time of day to take in the beauty of the hotel!
- Bunker Tour :: This once top-secret government relocation facility is now open to the public for tours. I loved learning about the history! It is an absolute must see!
- Golf :: I’m not a huge golfer, but the grounds here are stunning and the courses are award winning. If you are a golfer, this is another must!
- Pools :: Few things are more relaxing to me then afternoons spent by the pool. The Greenbrier has both a beautiful indoor and outdoor pool. Be sure to grab a drink and soak up the stunning views from the outdoor pool.
- Horseback riding :: Who knew I loved horseback riding so much? I hadn’t gone horseback riding in years and was thrilled when I learned Caleb signed us both up to go together. We had so much fun galavanting around the Greenbrier mountains.
- Hikes :: I believe a good hike is the best way to start the morning, so we signed up for the morning hikes each morning before breakfast. It was a gorgeous way to get some exercise and fresh air!
- Delicious food :: There are SO many gorgeous restaurants worth eating at while on property! Our favorite restaurants were Drapers {the chicken & waffles are divine}, Sam Sneeds {great for a casual afternoon overlooking the golf course}, Tree Tops Café {by the pool}, In-Fusion, Prime 44 West and the main dining room. And the Draper Ice Cream Bar is an absolute, 100% MUST! We may have gone for ice cream every day…
- Shopping :: There are quite a few adorable stores located inside The Greenbrier. They are each worth visiting, even if just to window shop.
- Casino :: Despite having been to Las Vegas, I had actually never gambled before. Caleb and I went one morning {since there would be no pressure & less drinking} to give it a shot, we played some games. We went with $20 each just to have some fun. The staff were incredibly helpful and were more than willing to help teach us how to play. Surprisingly, we walked out winners and had lots of fun! It was a great experience, if nothing else!
- Other activities :: The Greenbrier offers a plethora of daily activities- from falconry and archery to tennis, bowling, fishing, treetops and more. Be sure to check out your options!
