Does it get more cliché than apple picking in the fall? I think not! Each year, Caleb and I make it a priority to make it to upstate New York to go apple picking. This year I went twice- once with my girlfriends and once with Caleb and my parents. {I’m actually snacking on one of my hand-picked apples right now!}
If you are in New York City or the surrounding areas, I highly recommend jumping on a train or renting a car and heading north! Between the fresh apples, gorgeous scenery, pumpkin patches and apple treats galore- I promise you won’t be disappointed! If you are nearby, here are a few places I recommend visiting for apple picking near NYC:
By Car
- Pennings Orchard :: We visited this orchard last year and I fell in love. They have a wide variety of apples to choose from, the best apple cider donuts, delicious food, local ciders& pumpkin beer on tap, and is very family friendly. This year it was a little overly crowded for my taste, but it is still my favorite option for apple picking.
- Apple Ridge Orchard :: After visiting Pennings, we made our way to this little orchard. While it was much smaller and had fewer apple options, they had the BEST empire apples. And they have picnic tables so we were able to sit down and enjoy a little spread of treats! This orchard was far less crowded and a perfect way to end our day!
By Train
- Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard :: Take the Metro-North train to Croton Falls and take a $5 taxi to the orchard! It took us about an hour to get here from Grand Central. We were impressed with the food selection, live music, pumpkin patch and overall size of this orchard. There aren’t too many varieties of apples, but they were still delicious and fun to pick! And their apple cider donuts are delicious! This orchard was very family friendly!
- Outhouse Orchard :: Take the Metro-North train to Croton Falls and take a $5 taxi to the orchard! This orchard is located across the street and walking distance from Harvest Moon. We didn’t make it here, but apparently they have a wide variety of apples and they have a corn maze.
