Confession- when I read the Bible and come across the genealogy I get bored and tend to skip it. But last summer Beth Wiebe taught us something about the geneaology in the book of Genesis. When you take the genealogy in Genesis 5 you find the names Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech and Noah. Beth took these names from the original Hebrew version of the Bible and translated their names to what they literally translate to in english. The following is what they translate to.
Adam……..….Man
Seth……….….Appointed
Enosh……..….Mortal
Kenan…………Sorrow
Mahalalel ……The Blessed God
Jared………….Shall come down
Enoch…………Teaching
Methuselah …..His death shall bring
Lamech……….The despairing
Noah………….Rest, Comfort
