The Perfect Day Trip from Venice :: Visiting Valdo Prosecco

We recently returned home from the most magical trip to Italy. We spent 12 days exploring Venice and Positano and are wishing we could replicate our exact trip all over again. It was perfect! I’m a huge sparkling wine fan so I couldn’t wait to spend a day visiting the Prosecco region during our time in Venice. And let me tell you- I was blown away by how gorgeous it was!! I’ve spent time in wine regions around the world {Napa/Sonoma, Reims, Long Island, etc.} and I truly believe the Prosecco region is the prettiest. Those rolling hills are breathtaking!

We started our day at Valdo Prosecco and learned all about their prosecco making process. Upon our arrival we were given blue gowns to wear during our tour. It was incredible watching the process as the bottles were filled, corked and labeled. While there we learned about the difference between sparkling wine, DOCG and DOC labeled wines. {DOCG has the strictest guidelines and guarantees the geographic authenticity of the wine and its quality. There are only a handful of vines in the DOCG geographic region and therefore, very few wines qualify. DOC still has strict guidelines, but they are a bit more common as the geographic zone is a little bigger and the rules about what kind of grapes can be used are little more relaxed.} We then went on to taste a few of their various bottles. My favorites were the Cuvèe 1926, Numero 10, and the Prestigious Cuvée del Fondatore. And of course no celebration is complete without a sparkling rosé wrapped in a fun label.

After our morning at Valdo we continued on to see the actual vines where the DOCG grapes are grown. To say it was stunning would be an understatement. It was overwhelmingly gorgeous!!! We arrived to find a beautiful setup of fresh cherries and a plethora of Valdo Prosecco bottles. I’m almost hesitant to share the location with you because I don’t want it to become touristy, but it was too pretty not to share. When visiting Valdo and the prosecco region you MUST bring some treats and a few bottles of wine and go enjoy this location. It’s not a restaurant {it’s actually an old 19th-century farmhouse} and they don’t sell anything, but they have picnic tables set up and the views literally could not be any dreamier. And the only other people who were there were locals.

After our afternoon aperitivo, we continued on to lunch where we proceeded to enjoy the most delicious meal with yet again, another gorgeous view of vineyards on the rolling hills. Do yourself a favor and go to Salis Ristorante Enoteca and order whatever their special of the day is. When I was there it was some type of pasta with whatever vegetable was in season- it was divine.

It was literally the perfect day trip from Venice and I could not recommend it enough! Almost immediately upon our arrival back to Venice I called my parents to tell them we had to return back as a family- it was that pretty. If you are planning a trip to Venice I highly recommend making the day trip out to Valdobbiadene. And if you can’t make it out for the day trip, at the very least pick up a bottle or two of Valdo Prosecco and enjoy the views of Venice!

Wow, that region is beautiful! I’ve been to a few vineyards before ( Napa, Temecula) but you’re right: Prosecco is stunning! Although I’m not a wine-o, I love visiting wineries and learning about the process. And those bottles are so pretty!

I don’t consider trips to wine country because I don’t like wines – but Prosecco is a different story! How great that this region is so close to Venice. I’ll be looking at this option when we go. And your baby is adorable!

Great recap to a most wonderful day! I can’t wait to go back again and spend a bit more time in the Valdobbiadene area. Cayson will be very upset when he’s older that he didn’t get to enjoy any Prosecco when he visited! 😂

I never knew that these lovely vineyards are so close to Venice. It really looks like a worth visiting day trip from Venice. I would love to pluck those fresh cherries and for a beautiful vineyard tour. Your kid, Cayson is really impressed by the surroundings. I think, he too loves traveling.

I feel a bit daft that I’ve never even thought about visiting the Prosecco wine region, even though I’ve been to Italy quite often. We just went back to Venice for our third visit earlier this year but next time we visit this part of Italy, I’m definitely going to Valdo!

I’ve been to Venice, but not long enough to take a day trip. Whenever I go back to Venice I will have to go to Valdo Prosecco. It looks beautiful and I always love visiting vineyards although I’ve never visited any that make prosecco.

And my favourite wine? Whichever one is in my glass 😀

Such a great experience at these vineyards! The Prosecco wine region looks beautiful and charming. I would love to pick up the cherries and taste wine here. I’ve been to Italy twice but haven’t been here yet so this region will be on my list for my next visit to Italy.
