9 Things You Should Do Every Day Before 9 AM

I would love to say I’m a morning person, but I’m just not. However, I have learned to love my morning routine and have found the below items make all the difference. Here are 9 things you should do every morning before 9 AM.

  1. Practice gratitude :: Either write down or say out loud 3 things you are thankful for that day. This helps you start your day on a positive note! I like to say 3 things I’m thankful for out loud before I even get out of bed. And sometimes I like to write them down in my journal while I sip my coffee.
  2. Make your bed :: There is actual science that proves making your bed in the morning helps make the rest of your day more productive. It’s any easy, fast thing you can accomplish at the start of your day! Plus, there is nothing better than getting into a nicely made bed at the end of the day!
  3. Stretch :: Taking even 5 minutes to stretch helps get your body and blood moving, which helps bring oxygen to your brain. Bonus points if you get an actual workout in, but stretching is a great place to start.
  4. Dress for the day :: By getting dressed your are sending signals to your brain that you are preparing for your day. Recent studies show people are more productive when they get dressed.
  5. Drink a full glass of water :: Drink a full glass of water before you eat anything. Bonus points if you can add some fresh lemon to it!
  6. Read something positive :: I love reading one page of Hoda Kotb’s book “I Really Needed This Today” & my devotional. Both books are super fast reads and add that positive bump I need each morning. And it’s relaxing to read them while sipping my coffee.
  7. Eat something healthy :: Start your day with something healthy to fuel your body. If you’re super busy even a handful of cashews and blueberries is a decent start. But I love starting with scrambled eggs.
  8. Set priorities :: Even if you already have a to-do list, start each morning by selecting your top three priorities for the day.
  9. Get some fresh air :: Even if you can’t get outside, open a window and let the fresh air hit your face for a few moments.

:: Favorite items to make it happen ::

  • Gratitude :: I really love this gratitude journal.
  • Buy bedding you love :: I really love getting into bed every night because I love our bedding. It’s beyond cozy. Find bedding you love and it will make both making your bed in the morning and getting into your bed every night even sweeter! We recently upgraded to Cozy Earth bedding and wish we had made the change sooner. I chose this brand because I love the story behind the company, the sheets are sustainably made & the quality is amazing.
  • Stretching :: I usually like to do a basic vinyasa flow to stretch in the morning, but sometimes I’ll do a quick stretch or workout from my Tone It Up app.
  • Getting dressed :: I love these linen shorts {I have them in 4 colors}. I wear them with everything from sweaters to button down tops. A linen button down top like this and these shorts are my go to. Super comfortable, but still put together.
  • Drink water :: I’m not sure what it is about this cup, but I drink SO much more water from this cup. It’s like magic or something? I also bought these straws to go with it.
  • Find books you love :: I’m currently loving this book and this book. But I’ve also really enjoyed this one, this one and this one.
  • Eat something healthy :: If I’m really in a rush I grab a handful of cashews and blueberries. And I grab a Verb bar as a pick me up!
  • Coffee enhancements :: I add collagen peptides to my coffee every morning for some extra protein.
  • Priorities :: I’ve used this planner for years. It even has a section where you write in your top three priorities for the day.

It’s amazing the power of starting the day off right. These are great things to incorporate. Sometimes it’s hard to feel like you can accomplish all that, but just taking it a day at a time, it gets much easier.

Great suggestions. I am going to start a gratitude journal and I love the idea of doing it first thing in the morning which will really help set me with some positive vibes in the morning. This goes hand in hand with reading something positive in the morning. I am putting my phone on charge in another room!

Some great tips. I like the idea of opening a window and getting some fresh air first thing in the morning. I used to do a 10-minute workout every morning, but now I do it on my terrace later in the day.
