A SoCal Summer

Once upon a time I used this little corner of the internet as a personal diary. And if I’m completely honest, I kind of miss treating this space as my own little scrapbook. I started this site in 2010, when I was still in college. This site has seen me get engaged, married, move to Thailand, move to NYC, travel the world, become a mom, move to Southern California and so much more! This site became a sort-of photobook of my life and it holds some of my most cherished memories. And I’ve decided I’m going to bring back the OG style of blog- where I simply document my life once again.

This summer has been one for the books! It has been filled with sand, sunshine & so many summer camps! Our 6 year old went to Kanakuk for sleep away camp, sail camp, oceanography camp, and surf camp- and he loved them ALL! We really thought we were over going to throw spaghetti at the wall and see what he enjoyed, but we were shocked when he loved it all! Our 3 year old is still too young for most summer camps, so he did summer camp for a couple of weeks at our church. When not at camp, we spent time exploring some of our favorite local areas by bike, playing at the beach, on the boat or swimming in the pool.

If you plan on visiting Orange County with kids, here are some of our favorite things to do in Newport Beach:

  • Ride bikes on the Newport Beach boardwalk
  • Take the ferry over to Balboa Island {We love walking around the island, eating at Wilma’s, and of course you must get a Balboa Bar or frozen banana at Sugar n’ Spice}
  • Eat at Ruby’s on the Balboa Pier {our boys love their milkshakes}
  • Rent a Duffy Boat on the harbor
  • Visit Marina Park Playground {it’s great for kids & has a beach on the harbor}

Bonus :: Our boys also LOVE Legoland in Carlsbad. The lines are SO much faster than Disneyland, there are half the crowds, young kids can ride more rides & overall we far prefer it to Disney.
