NYC is magical year round, but fall in New York City is absolutely stunning! It’s a sight I believe everyone needs to enjoy at least once in their life. Over the past few years, we’ve had friends come to visit us during this season and we’ve come to realize that NYC fall peaks closer to the end of October or beginning of November. For the past few weekends Caleb, Cayson and I have made our way up to Central Park to see if the trees have peaked in color and this year, it looks like this year the trees are peaking the first week of November. They are absolutely stunning!
If you are coming to NYC in the fall, there are a few places you must visit!
- Central Park
- Gapstow Bridge :: The bridge in the southern eastern corner. The views of the Plaza and the foliage are always beautiful.
- Bethesda :: The Bethesda terrace and fountain are some of my favorite things in Central Park. They are gorgeous year round and I love hearing the artists play under the terrace.
- Boathouse :: The restaurant is great, but the row boats are always fun. They are decently cheap and one of my favorite things we do each fall.
- Bow Bridge :: This bridge is always filled with people, so arrive early if you want a picture on it alone. But it’s worth visiting even if there are a plethora of people.
- Rocks :: Southern Central Park is filled with huge rock formations. Climb one and enjoy the view of the trees and buildings all around you!
- Conservatory Water :: I call this the Stewart Little pond. It’s the pond with the sail boats and another favorite spot for me in the park.
- Upper West Side
- Simply walk around the neighborhood. The brownstones always have the prettiest stoops.
- Riverside Park :: It’s a gorgeous park and worth visiting!
- Upper East Side
- Again, simply walk around the neighborhood. The brownstones always have the prettiest stoops.
- Park Avenue :: The medians are always decorated with stunning mums and other fall items.
We missed the foliage by 2 weeks!! Ahh guess we have to come back!
Fall is absolutely my favorite time of the year to visit NYC. Christmas is pretty awesome too but nothing beats fall. Some of your pictures look absolutely amazing and are a living proof of this :) Thanks for sharing
Yes absolutely! I’m blessed reading your blog! NYC is the next thing on my mind when passing my national visa on Germany this month! I also have a baby which is very timely having read your blog :) Just walking around the Central Park would be a whole day activity I say!
New York is one of my most favourite cities in the world and yes you can experience all the seasons here with through style. I love winter and christmas her but fall is something I would love to experience. The central park without a doubt would feature top on the list to experience . Love the colours of the park and one which is very picturesque .
New York City has beautiful spots to enjoy the fall. Some people go all out decorating their stoops! Central Park is so big that you can enjoy so many different aspects. Will try to time a visit there during peak foliage season.
I’ve never visited NY at this time of year but would love to, perhaps next time I go, I’ll time it accordingly. There’s something magical about the yellow and orange of autumn leaves against the yellow NY cabs!!
I missed being there this year for fall, and it was so pretty. I definitely agree by heading to the bridge in Central Park, it’s so iconic. I didn’t get to walk around the Upper West Side the last time, but I want to see the Brownstones! The next time.
How have i never heard about rock formations in central park?? Something new every day!
I’ve been wanting to visit NYC during fall since I watched One Fine Day. And now you, the NYC local, gave us details of spots where to see the fall foliage. Aahh… Hope next year it will be a reality.
Also I missed your bit about strolling through the upper East side! Id love to do that just because of my reading of all 11 gossip girl books, id also like to see Canal strert in the city to see all of the knockoffs- I hear it can turn into a real fight Club! It all seems interesting because detrout has none of this! No tourist stuff, no giant Macy’s, but we do have hot dogs sold on the street.
This is a great list of the best spots. I would definitely go for the rock park as well as all the places where leaves have beautiful colors 😍 it looks magical!
