What a Week

What a week! This past week my grandmother flew in from California to help my mom and me with some of the finishing touches and crafting for the wedding. What a week full of sweet memories and a few surprises.  Our first night we put in yet another wedding movie (who knew there were so many!) and began building welcome baskets for our guests. All three of us have a new found appreciation for the amount of time other brides and their families spend on these little gifts. Praise the Lord for good company. The next day the really fun stuff began. Baking! The day after the wedding we will be having a champagne brunch where we will be serving my families favorite- blintze (also known as crepes). While there will be other things served, this is among my favorites. As I have mentioned before my grandmother makes some of the best blintze. Our kitchen was quite a sight. We had 15 dozen eggs (yes, you read that right- 15 dozen) , 4 bags of flour, 4 gallons of milk, our favorite Mexican vanilla and a few other ingredients. We literally spent an entire day in the kitchen and ended up making over a couple hundred blintze. I do have to admit that between the three of us and the friends who came to visit, we did end up eating quite a few of them. So needless to say, when a blintze tore in half in the midst of making it- we were not upset in the least! They are just too tasty… especially when they were this fresh!

We don’t use sugar and use less oil

The cheeses are for a filling, not for making the actual blintze

Excuse the mess. We mix in a blender to avoid chunks

You cannot make Russian Blintze without Matryoshka doll measuring spoons

Or Matryoshka doll measuring cups

And our bit of Texas

So blessed by these women

On another day my grandmother came with us for one of my mother and my last fittings. My mother found a beautiful strapless dress in New York that we added shoulder straps to and I was just deciding which kind of bustle to get. It was so special to share this moment with my Grandmother. We made so many sweet memories crafting, shopping and figuring out our dresses. We even went on one other adventure (which was my one of my favorite events of the week), but that adventure will not be shared until after the wedding day :) But I am looking forward to sharing it with you!
