As I get closer to 30, I’ve begun to learn some essential lessons. From life lessons to wardrobe & self care essentials, I’ve come to learn what’s worth splurging on and what’s worth saving on. Here are 5 essentials I believe every woman should splurge on and 5 items worth saving on:
blazer {use code chloe315 for a discount} :: tank :: jeans similar
shoes {use code ChloeArnold for a discount} :: belt :: bracelet similar
Aurate shorter necklace ::Aurate longer necklace
Essentials Worth Splurging On
- A black blazer :: A good black blazer is timeless. You can dress them up with a nice dress and heals or dress them down with a t shirt and jeans. Regardless of how you wear it, they always elevate your look. My favorite blazer was actually purchased at a sample sale and my second favorite blazer was purchased at a consignment shop. So you can purchase quality blazers at a decent price point- you just have to keep an eye out! Either way, every woman should have a good black blazer in her closet!
- Classic gold jewelry :: I love how jewelry can change the entire look of an outfit, but I really love a good necklace that goes with everything. I recently ‘splurged’ on two Aurate necklaces and I haven’t taken them off in weeks. They are the kind of pieces I could every day for the rest of my life. They are delicate, classic and simple {and the prices won’t break the bank}. I personally chose the gold Connection Necklace and the rose gold Bezel Diamond Necklace for layering. I love Aurate because the pieces are all classics, everything is 100% ethically sourced, they give back to charity with every purchase and everything has a lifetime guarantee.
- A skincare routine :: I waited until I was about 27 to finally start washing my face and putting moisturizer on and I regret it. I wish I had listened to my mother at 15 or 16 and started taking care of my skin. Now I have a consistent skincare routine and I actually enjoy it! Find what works for your skin and stick to it!
- Nice shoes :: As a New Yorker who walks a ton, I’ve come to learn how important it is to take care of your feet. If your feet feel good, your body likely fees good. I quickly learned back pain can start from wearing bad shoes. And an old, tired pair of shoes can ruin the nicest outfit. As I approach 30 I’ve learned it’s time to toss those well loved, ratty shoes and buy replacements. Again, you can buy quality at a decent price point. I had my eye on these Chanel heels for years, but found these IDENTICAL heels here for a fraction of the price. AND they are made from the exact same material and the quality is almost identical. I’ve actually raved about them so often the compnay gave me a discount code for you! Use ChloeArnold for 10% off!
- Trench Coat :: I finally indulged in a nice trench coat and can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner. Whether your live in California or New York, Paris or Barcelona, there is always a season for a trench coat. They are timeless and can finish off any fall or spring outfit. I had previously purchased cheaper ones, but they always felt a bit cheap. Caleb purchased this one for me for my birthday and I LOVE it! The material is divine and the attention to detail is amazing. I know it’s a coat I will have for years to come.
Items Worth Saving On
- Trendy Pieces :: This fall I’m loving colored and plaid blazers, high waist/wide leg pants, headbands & hair clips, and more. And while I like to partake in season trends, I don’t like to spend a lot on them if I know they will only last me a season or two. I love places like SheIn {use chloe315 for a discount}, Amazon, H&M, etc for more trendy pieces.
- Cashmere :: Few things beat a good cashmere sweater. I even love silk-cashmere sweaters. While cashmere can often be a splurge, I’ve found Banana Republic has amazing sales on their cashmere {check the mens too- I buy small mens sweaters for oversized fit!} and you can even find great cashmere sweaters at TJ Maxx. I initially had this in the splurge column because I believe cashmere is an essential everyone should prioritize, but I’ve purchased cashmere sweaters at Banana Republic for as low as $20- so just be intentional and search for good prices! I always stock up on classics at the end of the season when everything goes on sale.
- White Tee :: Everyone should have at least one good white tee in their closet. I personally have about 5. You can build so many outfits from a basic white tee. I personally don’t splurge on these because white with Cayson is dangerous. I’d rather spend $5-$30 on a white tee just in case it gets ruined.
- Striped long sleeve :: In my opinion, this is another basic everyone should have in their closet. They come in so many different colors and cuts. All you need to do is add a pair of jeans and you’re set!
- Little black dress :: I ALMOST added this to the splurge side and some could argue it deserves to be there, but then I realized my two favorite LBDs were purchased for about $50-$100. And while I wouldn’t call $100 ‘cheap’ per se, I’d call a staple LBD under $100 a win.

Fashion doesn’t come naturally to me. I feel like I try to overdo it. From this quick post I feel like I learned so much. Especially about getting a black blazer and simple gold jewelry. And so excited to try these out
Yes I definitely agree with splurging on your Skin Care Routine. The products used on the skin can make such a huge difference! And a woman can never go wrong with a black blazer.
I absolutely love cashmere sweaters, but they are so expensive! Nice to find affordable ones thanks to you!
Love these tips, great for flaneur (or flaneuse) fashion — especially in a stylish metropolis like NYC!
I am in love with that necklace!!! Very stylish clothes as well. Thanks for sharing!
A very good skin routine is worth splurging indeed. Whatever clothing you wear will absolutely look good with nice skin.
Great tips. My black blazer is a staple in my work wardrobe, I’m so glad I splurged on it.
These are great ideas to make life hassles easy. Thank God I listen to my elder sister and have never neglected my skin for long.
great tips, specially the skincare routine! Thanks for sharing them with us.
I love me a blazer! I used to have one years ago. They literally go with anything! Will definitely be getting one soon. Thanks for sharing!
I used to be cheap when it came to shoes. Now that I am older comfort is essential and a lot of times that comfort comes with a price tag. So worth it.
These are great points! I tend to splurge on the classics too and save on trends. I will say though I consider my plaid blazer a classic though :)
I will definitely vote on splurging on shoes.
This is a great post. Loved all the products.
This is definitely a smart way to shop. I agree! There’s items that are worth the splurge and others that don’t. I splurge in skin care, makeup, bags, shoes and coats, but save on accessories, basic tops, flats and swimwear.
While im all about skincare , fashion and keeping up with the trends does not come naturally to me! So is easy to understand why im always in the hunt for good fashion advice ! need to invest in a good blazer yes , thank you for the tip
I definitely agree with this list! I’ve always spent more on skincare for sure. And a classic trench coat is a must!
